INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Research shows that the earlier we educate our children about infectious disease, the more likely they are to protect themselves from illness.
Your job is to research a particular infectious disease and prepare a short children’s book describing it. Keep in mind that an infectious disease is one that is caused by a pathogen, a bacteria or virus that can be transmitted from person to person. The book should be appropriate for the reading level and attention span of eleven-year-olds or fifth graders. Be both creative and informative.
Reference materials
This is the place to start any research project. Reference books such as encyclopedias offer authoritative overviews on nearly every topic. These books cannot leave the library. But, many of them are available electronically. Use Destiny to find print and electronic versions of reference books. Try looking for the disease you are studying or search for "infection" and "epidemic". Ms. Schmidt created a Resource List of all WHS books, no matter the format, on infectious diseases.
